BBQ Sauce

BBQ Sauce (nut free, gluten free, vegan, paleo)

This BBQ sauce goes perfectly with my brisket recipe, but also makes really good barbecue chicken or pulled pork. It can be made in big batches and be frozen for whenever you need it. It tastes so much better than store bought, and you don’t get all that extra refined sugar. This sauce I would consider sweet and smokey. If you prefer a spicier sauce you can always add more pepper and dry mustard.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ketchup

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

  • 10 tbsp. maple syrup or coconut sugar

  • 1/4 tbsp. black pepper

  • 1/2 tbsp. onion powder (optional)

  • 1/2 tbsp. dry mustard powder

  • 1 tbsp. coconut aminos or liquid aminos

  • 3 tbsp. liquid smoke or 1/4 cup brisket drippings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients in a sauce pan on low heat.

  2. Let simmer for an hour. Stir every 20 minutes or so.

  3. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. Or keep in the freezer.
